Chaos and emergent systems theory dictates that a stable system must pass through an apparently chaotic threshold challenge in order to reach a higher level of complexity.  This corresponds to what cultures all over the world and throughout time have discovered and incorporated in their rites of passage.  These initiatory processes and technologies are designed to deliver individuals to higher states of awareness, understanding and wisdom – attributes essential to authentic leadership.

In the West for the past 2500 years, we have focused our attention on manipulating the external environment for our own benefit.  Without a complete understanding of whole systems, we have created miraculous technologies while at the same time seriously damaging the living systems that sustain life.  Might we be missing something?

In the East, entire cultures have explored consciousness for 2500 years and developed inner-mind technologies that rival our understandings of the external environment.  The extent of this wisdom is only beginning to be realized and appreciated in the West.

In addition, natural systems have evolved on our planet over times that dwarf human history; an understanding of how nature operates can inform our activities in all areas of work and life unmatched by any other knowledge base.

These modalities have been my life’s study and work for almost 40 years.  Although my initial education was in business and marine biology, my focus shifted in my early twenties to a study of cross-cultural perennial wisdom.  I have apprenticed with and received instruction, transmission and initiation from traditional teachers from India, Nepal, Korea, Tibet, Bhutan, Japan and the Americas.  I have shared what I have received with thousands, individually and in groups, in hour-long sessions or over a year, in homes, schools or corporate meeting rooms, in the wilderness or on a trek in Nepal or India
